Cookies are small text values stored by your browser so a service can remember sessions, preferences, and selected settings.

How we use cookies

Spleen uses a small number of cookies. Some are needed to sign you in and keep the service working; the rest remember how you like the interface set up. None of them track you.

The cookies we use:

Authentication. Keeps you securely signed in.

  • Name: spleen.session_token (__Secure-spleen.session_token over HTTPS), spleen.trust_device
  • Duration: Session, or the remembered-device period for two-factor authentication
  • Required: Yes

Sign-in flow. Carries you back to the page you were heading for, and lets the marketing site show that you are signed in without reading your session.

  • Name: spleen_return_to, spleen.presence
  • Duration: 10 minutes, and 7 days
  • Required: Yes

Appearance. Remembers your light or dark setting and your chosen theme across the site and the app.

  • Name: spleen-mode, spleen-theme
  • Duration: 1 year
  • Required: No

Layout. Remembers interface settings such as sidebar state and width, the split between the writing and research trees, the project list layout, the editor font, and the panes in the guide and in shared links.

  • Name: sidebar_state, sidebar_width, sidebar_tree_split, projects_layout, spleen_editor_font_family, help_sidebar_state, help_sidebar_width, share_contents_state, share_contents_width
  • Duration: 7 days to 1 year
  • Required: No

Maintenance. Lets us reach the service while it is closed for planned work.

  • Name: spleen.maintenance
  • Duration: Browser session
  • Required: Yes

We do not set analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. The cookies listed above are used only for Spleen’s own authentication, preferences, and essential service behavior.

Blocking the ones marked required will stop you signing in. Blocking the others only means that the preferences they remember may be lost, so the interface may return to its default settings on future visits.
